Clinical Observation of Metastatic Carcinoma of the Neck with an Unknown Primary


Abstract
A clinical study made on 30 cases of metastatic neoplasm of the neck with an unknown primary is
presented here.
1) The age of majority of cases ranged at the 5th decade.
2) The ratio of male to female was 2.8 to 1.
3) The average duration was 4 months.
4) The chief complaints on admission was nothing but asymptomatic mass or lumo in the neck.
5) The majority of the tumors was larger than hen¢¥s egg size (76.7%).
6) The majoruty of the mass located unilaterally (28 cases of 30 cases). On the left side of the
neck, 46.7% was occupied at the lower one-third, while on the right 61.5% at the middle one-third.
7) The majority of the primary focus was found within 8 months (95.5%),
8) The primary focus found above the clavicle was 68.2% and that below the clavicle was 31.8%
9) 50% of the metastatic cancer was anaplastic type.
10) 33.3% of the cases was given RND, 26.7% of which was received radiation therapy. 33.3%
of the cases was received radiation therapy from the beginning.
